چکیده

Kalman filter technniques are widely used in the areas of attitude and orbit determination, prediction and calibration. These techniques work well if the system dynamics are well-defined. Problems arise, however, when the system parameters are unknown ahead of time or changing over time. This paper discusses an adaptive Kalman filter design that utilizes recursive maximum likelihood parameter identification. At the center of this design is the Kalman filter itself, which has the responsibility for attitude determination. At the same time, however, the identification algorithm is continually identifying the system parameters. The approach is applicable to nonlinear as well as linear systems. This adaptive Kalman filter design has much potential for real-time implementation, especially considering the fast clock speeds, cache memory and internal RAM available today. The recursive maximum likelihood (RML) identification algorithm is discussed in detail, with special attention directed towards its unique matrix formulation. Next, the procedure for using the algorithm is described along with comments on how this algorithm interacts with the Kalman filter. Finally, a spacecraft attitude determination/calibration example is provided. In the development of the dynamics for this example, the angular velocity of one of the axis is assumed to be constant. In the simulation, however, this velocity varies slowly. The RML identifier is used to continually identify this changing velocity. This AKF-RML method may be used to identify multiple parameters such as sensor biases or external torques. *Hughes Aircraft Company, Aurora, Colorado tMechanica! and Aerospace Department, North Carolina State University

Real Time Calibration of Strap-down Three-Axis-Magnetometer for Attitude Estimation

Three-axis-magnetometers (TAMs) are widely utilized as a key component of attitude determination subsystems and as such are considered the corner stone of navigation for low Earth orbiting (LEO) space systems. Precise geomagnetic-based navigation demands accurate calibration of the magnetometers. In this regard, a complete online calibration process of TAM is developed in the current research t...

A New Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter for a Class of Nonlinear Systems

This paper proposes a new adaptive extended Kalman filter (AEKF) for a class of nonlinear systems perturbed by noise which is not necessarily additive. The proposed filter is adaptive against the uncertainty in the process and measurement noise covariances. This is accomplished by deriving two recursive updating rules for the noise covariances, these rules are easy to implement and reduce the n...

Interconnected maximum likelihood estimator and extended Kalman filter for inertial measurement unit calibration fusing three-dimensional camera information

This article presents a method for calibration of inertial sensors (gyroscopes and accelerometers). In the proposed selfcalibration method, interacted extended Kalman filter and maximum likelihood estimator are applied for estimation of motion state parameters and calibration parameters (biases and scaling factors), respectively. The extended Kalman filter is employed to estimate nonlinear Gaus...

SSC13-VIII-1 On-Orbit Calibration of Photodiodes for Attitude Determination

This paper presents a method for on-orbit calibration of photodiodes for sun sensing in an attitude determination system. The calibration estimates the scale factors and alignment angles of the photodiodes, resulting in higher attitude determination accuracy than achieved with the pre-flight calibration parameters. The calibration is implemented with an extended Kalman filter to simultaneously ...

Doppler and bearing tracking using fuzzy adaptive unscented Kalman filter

The topic of Doppler and Bearing Tracking (DBT) problem is to achieve a target trajectory using the Doppler and Bearing measurements. The difficulty of DBT problem comes from the nonlinearity terms exposed in the measurement equations. Several techniques were studied to deal with this topic, such as the unscented Kalman filter. Nevertheless, the performance of the filter depends directly on the...
